The fall series of NWNY’s flagship LEAD program are about to begin! LEAD is a free 8-week workforce development program open to young immigrant women combining skills training, teamwork, and leadership development.

New Women New Yorkers hosted special guests from POP Gym and an Americorps volunteer from the International Rescue Committee during our latest summer Meetup in Central Park. The attending women were given a free lesson in self-defense, followed by a workshop on nutrition, physical wellness, and healthy relationships. After working up an appetite, the women enjoyed a picnic lunch together to bask in the perfect late summer weather.

“As a child growing up in Strasbourg, France, Elizabeth Maille watched a lot of films. She would memorize her favorite lines and scenes, and often scrunch up her face and say to herself, “I wouldn’t do this scene like this.” Then, the extremely shy girl would run to her room, make sure she was alone, and gleefully act out the same scene to her satisfaction. That is how it all began.

Now, that little girl has grown into a successful, confident actress, auditioning for major TV series and films. At age 26, Elizabeth is living her dream in the City of Dreams.”
