Young women immigrants in NYC face many challenges and vulnerabilities – help us empower them!

Did you know that about a third of women immigrants in the US have not completed high school, according to the findings of a poll conducted by the New America Media (2009)? The same poll points out that a majority of women immigrants have very limited English proficiency. Women immigrants also often lack familiarity and proficiency in using computers, the Internet, and other electronic resources and media, when these technologies could help open the door to greater opportunities for them. In the job market, women immigrants are underrepresented in higher end professions and have lower earnings than the native-born, and than their male counterparts. Additional vulnerabilities and challenges, including legal status or lack thereof, low earnings, and family responsibilities, impede their personal and professional growth and opportunities.

We will be launching next week our first crowdfunding campaign to raise funding for our flagship project, the Leadership Development & Community Organizing Program, starting this coming January. The Leadership Development & Community Organizing Program is a 3-month training program with weekly workshops for young women immigrants. Through interactive workshops, group assignments, and active practice and engagement, participating young women immigrants will acquire knowledge, skills, and greater self-confidence, and they will learn to work together and contribute to their communities in various leadership capacities now and in the future. Please stay tuned, and help us run a successful campaign! You will be able to contribute in different ways: by making a donation, by doing your shopping online through our crowdfunding page (a small percentage of your purchases will be redirected to our cause, without this costing you anything extra!), and by spreading the word about the campaign in your social networks, so that we can garner even more support and donations for our cause!

Please help us build a strong organization and program that will provide quality leadership and professional development for New York City’s young women immigrants. Together we will make a change in the lives of NYC’s young women immigrants!
