Professional development programs

This month we visited the NYC offices of the global consulting company ZS in the Empire State Building. Our group of participants learned about salary and job offer negotiation in the US, and received practical knowledge and insight from the company’s employees. Special thanks to our partner Working for Women for making this session possible.

Last month we also held a lunch-discussion at The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America with several of NWNY’s volunteers and program graduates and with women executives at the company, in honor of Women’s History Month. We’re excited to begin bringing Guardian employees to volunteer as resume reviewers, mock interviewers, and career counselors to support immigrant women through their transition to the workforce in NYC.

Community building & storytelling

At our 3rd Community Mixer in our personal ecology series, we learned about and practiced a set of key strategies and practical tools to better prioritize tasks, and to manage both time and stress more effectively, so that we can accomplish more without getting burned out.

Our Cultural Trip took us to a screening and discussion at The New School dedicated to Hannah Arendt, one of the most influential American philosophers and political theorists.

Other news

Our Founder & CEO Arielle Kandel spoke at a side event of the UN Commission on the Status of Women about the economic empowerment of refugee and immigrant women, organized by With or Without and the Kota Alliance.

Our Program Associate Gyuzel Zaripova, Board Director Maria Maldonado, and several LEAD graduates participated in the Women’s Day Resources Fair of the Ecuadorian Consulate to provide information about NWNY and enroll new participants in our programs.

We are excited and grateful to have received the continued support of the Knisely Family Foundation for our LEAD and LEAD for New Moms professional development programs. The Knisely Family Foundation funds organizations and programs that have a positive impact on the health of their community, with a particular interest for helping individuals and families to achieve self-sufficiency.

Finally, check this short clip by Spike Lee in honor of Jackie Robinson, where our founder and CEO Arielle Kandel is featured!
