October News: Our Year-End Event and Much More

We are excited to invite you to our year-end event, Finding a Job in America – A Night of Comedy and Horror by Immigrant Women, which will take place on Wednesday, December 4 from 6:30pm to 9:30pm at LMHQ in Lower Manhattan. Join us to celebrate one more year serving immigrant women in New York City!

The event will feature performances and stories by our LEAD graduates and participants, about their experience of the job search. It promises to be a fun and inspiring evening! Get your ticket here, before it’s too late.  

Also, we’ve been very active with the completion of our LEAD Summer series at Mid-Manhattan and the kick-off of our Fall LEAD and Bridge to LEAD Series at  the Brooklyn Central Library, NYPL Chatham Square, and NMIC, and three company sessions for our alumni and new participants.

Workforce development

We completed last month our LEAD workforce development Summer series at the NYPL Mid-Manhattan Library, with 12 new participants from 9 countries including Brazil, Cameroon, Honduras, and South Korea. We also kicked off our 1st LEAD series at the Brooklyn Central Library with a group of 11 participants. 

Last month we hosted a Mock Interview session for the third year in a row with The Rockefeller Foundation. 14 LEAD participants received valuable feedback and tips to reach their professional goals and optimize their job search. Special thanks to Jayme Dorsett-Sobel.

We also hosted our first Career Advice Coffee Chat session at Guardian Life. 10 LEAD participants met with Guardian Life employees and received job search advice. Special thanks to Camille Habacker.

We went also back to LinkedIn for our last quarterly visit this year. 18 LEAD participants joined a workshop to learn more about LinkedIn, received 1-on-1 coaching on how to improve their LinkedIn profile by LinkedIn employees, and visited the company offices. Special thanks to Annie Stankevich.

Community building programs
Our September Community Mixer included a workshop on sexual harassment in the workplace, led by the Gender Equality Law Center. We learned how to identify and react to situations that could lead to sexual harassment. 

Our Cultural Trip last month took place in Gracie Mansion, the official residence of the NYC Mayor, where we received a guided tour of the exhibit She Persists, and learned more about the women that helped shape New York City.
