Stine’s photograph and story were curated as part of the photo and storytelling exhibit, “Real People. Real Lives. Women Immigrants of New York.”

“I moved to New York in 2011, with a fresh (and free) education from the Design School of Copenhagen, Denmark. The world was wide open and I had a job opportunity in New York. It was fun and frustrating, like laughing and crying at the same time.

“Even though my English was fine, it just made me so frustrated to constantly have to explain and communicate in another language that didn’t come naturally to me. It almost felt fake sometimes, and I often got confused with the directions I was given to get somewhere. I do still get lost a lot in this city and that’s what I love and hate about it. It’s a true romance that keeps me on my toes and gives me wrinkles and glow at the same time. Coming to NY is the best thing so far I’ve done in my life.”

“Real People. Real Lives. Women Immigrants of New York” is a one-time event hosted by New Women New Yorkers at the Centre for Social Innovation this Thursday, March 24, in honor of Women’s History Month.
