Just a short ferry ride from Lower Manhattan and Brooklyn, Governors Island is one of New York City’s most beloved seasonal destinations, and this summer and fall, New Women New Yorkers calls it home.
From May through November 2026, New Women New Yorkers is moving into House 410A on Colonels Row, as part of the Governors Island Arts Organization in Residence program. The house is open every weekend, free and open to all.
What’s Inside
Step inside and you’ll find immigrant women artists at work in their studios, creating paintings, sculptures, films, and performances that explore migration, identity, belonging, and climate. You’ll also encounter two exhibitions from our storytelling archive, Real People. Real Lives. and Climate Chronicles, both created by immigrant women in New York City.
This is not a traditional gallery. It is a working creative space where art is made in front of you, where conversations happen naturally, and where every visitor is welcome to stay as long as they like.

Throughout the season, we host free public programs open to all ages and backgrounds:
Every weekend from 11am to 5pm: Open Studio Saturdays & Sundays, where you can meet the artists and see works in progress.
4 Saturdays in May & June: A Visual Storytelling Training Series and Showcase, bringing together photography and written storytelling.
